HORSE ALLERGIES
Even with horse allergies riding can remain a passion
Allergies are currently a worldwide problem. Forty percent of German people suffer from allergies. There is a difference if one has contact allergies; which is triggered by touching the horse; or respiratory allergies (allergic asthma), which can cause shortness of breath. People with horse allergies show a reaction after contact with a hor- se specifically; this is caused by a reaction of proteins in the human skin.
Professor Dr. Jugert underwent this study in March of 2000 at the University in Aachen. He discovered that the skin cells of the Curly horses in context to their protein mix differ from other horses. Be- cause of their different skin components and different hair structure Curly or smooth coat Curlys can finally fulfill dreams of people who suffer from horse allergies.
